Although the camaraderie of an event cache is what brings people in, it's the food that keeps them going. Here are some recipes for you to enjoy at home or for you to bring to the next event.

Tortilla Soup from Scott Robuck
Here is one of my favorite recipes that will warm you up on a cold night and cure what ails you if you're sick. It's a tortilla soup recipe that will improve your brain power, increase your searching skills, and protect you from muggles. OK, it won't protect you from muggles but it's still the best tortilla soup you'll ever make!

1.5 cups yellow onions, chopped
3 lg cloves garlic, diced
1 cup green bell pepper, chopped
1 tbsp canola or olive oil
2 cups tomatoes, chopped (1 lg can stewed)
60 oz chicken broth (four 14 oz. cans)
1 cup tortilla chips, crushed
1 bunch cilantro
1 lime, squeezed
1 lb. chicken tenders
1 jalapeno pepper, sliced with seeds removed
1 can (7 oz.) green chilies, chopped
1/2 cup frozen corn (or corn with peppers)
2 tsp red chili pepper
3 tsp cumin
1 tsp marjoram
garnish Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
garnish avocado, sliced
  1. Boil chicken first, only cooking it halfway (still pink in the middle); remove from pot, empty water, and set chicken aside

  2. Saute onions, garlic, bell pepper , and jalapeno pepper in oil until onions are translucent

  3. Add tomatoes, green chilies, corn, and spices and continue cooking for 2 minutes

  4. Dice chicken into smaller than bite size pieces

  5. Add chicken broth and 3/4 cup crushed tortilla chips; bring to low boil and then reduce heat to medium simmer, stirring occasionally 25 - 30 minutes

  6. Add diced chicken and continue to simmer for another 10-15 minutes

  7. Just before serving, add chopped cilantro, broken tortilla chips, and a squeeze of lime

  8. Garnish with cheese and avocado slices

Makes about 6 to 8 large bowls. I usually use fat free chicken broth and it tastes just fine. If you prefer a more spicey mix, leave jalapeno seeds in jalapeno slices. Enjoy!
